Dear Congregants and Friends:

Each year Congregation Ohav Sholom chooses to honor special individuals who have given unselfishly of their
time, energy and resources in service to our synagogue as honorees of our annual Journal Dinner Dance. This
year for our 49th annual event we are privileged to honor Amy and Peter Tannenbaum, a quintessential Ohav
Sholom success story.
Moving to Merrick 16 years ago, Amy and Peter were unsure as to which synagogue they would affiliate
with, but after only a few visits to Ohav, they knew they had found their Shul. The warmth, ruach, and
encouraging environment were just what they were looking for. Time has proven this to be a perfect
match.
Peter has served multiple leadership roles at Ohav Sholom including many positions on the Executive
Committee including Recording Secretary, Vice President - Social Activities, Vice President – Fundraising,
Executive Vice President and then the highest level of service as President from 2006-2008. Peter has also
been instrumental in many of our fundraising and social activities including the Dream Auctions, Superbowl
fundraiser, Journal Dinners and many other endeavors. At the same time, Amy has held many active roles as
a mainstay of the Ohav Sisterhood where she has held leadership positions and served as a long time co-chair
of “Chaverim”, the Ohav Sholom social club. Amy and Peter are also active as core workers of our regular
Bingo game where Peter serves as a team captain and Amy a frequent kitchen and floor worker. Their overall
commitment to the furtherance of Judaic life is evident in their devotion to the Solomon Schechter Day
School of Nassau County and High School of Long Island where their two daughters, Rachel and Maxine have
been students since kindergarten and currently attend High School.
Please take this opportunity and join us as we pay tribute to these most deserving honorees by planning
to attend the journal dinner on Saturday night March 10th. The dinner committee is hard at work to make
sure this dinner is one for the ages so please do not miss out. You also have the chance to support Ohav by
soliciting ads for the journal from vendors and local merchants with whom you may have an association.
You can download a journal advertisement blank below or pick up additional copies at the shul
office. Please do your best to make this our most successful journal
fundraiser yet! And thank you advance for helping our Shul and for joining us honor Amy and Peter.
Sincerely,
Barry Birnbaum
