The sale of Chometz is an important law, the observance of which is necessary for the maintenance of kashrus within the Jewish home. Chometz (food or utensils) which is retained over the Passover holidays may not be used after the festival period unless it was previously sold through the procedure prescribed by Jewish law. Our religion provides for the legal sale of Chometz with the Rabbi generally acting as agent.
