Seyum Bechorim

Tradition dictates that all first-born males fast on Passover eve, in remembrance of the fact that they were spared from the tenth plaque which killed the Egyptian first-born. If, however, one attends a "Seudas Mitzvah", a feast that accompanies the performance of a religious duty, one is no longer required to fast. Therefore, it is customary that a "Seyum" or conclusion of a Talmudic tractate, studied by the Rabbi, follows the morning services on Passover eve. The conclusion of a Talmudic book is an occasion for rejoicing and warrants a feast, thus exempting those partaking from the fast. All first-born males should attend the service and "Seyum" on Monday, March 29 at 6:15 AM.
