Tales of Survival

By
MICHAEL ROSENBLOOM

The twentieth century was a period of earth shaking events: two world wars, the Bolshevik Revolution, The Holocaust, the establishment of the State of Israel and ingathering of exiles therein, just to name a few. It is not surprising that some members of our congregation lived through these tumultuous events and have interesting stories to tell.

In this next series of articles, I'll be profiling some of our own Ohav Shalom members. If you're not yet aware of the rich backgrounds of our members, hopefully Tales of Jewish Survival will serve as an eye-opener. Some are stories of achievement. Others illustrate the journeys (always long and never easy), hardships and dangers (sometimes physical, sometimes spiritual), that they and their families faced, to survive as Jews. These are stories, which need to be told, at the very least among the members of our shul.
